چکیده

Most current quantitative precipitation nowcasting (QPN) methodologies are deterministic in nature and convey little realistic information regarding the uncertainty in the forecast. For flood and streamflow forecasting applications it is important to understand and accurately represent this uncertainty (Smith and Austin, 2000). This will allow a greater deal of confidence in the use of precipitation forecasts for hydrological purposes. This paper presents results obtained using a stochastic Bayesian precipitation nowcasting scheme. The nowcast methodology utilises an integrodifference equation (IDE) methodology and, as such, allows the use of other observed meteorological parameters (e.g. Doppler winds) as a constraint on the stochastic process. This produces a physically based statistical nowcast. The scheme produces a range of nowcasting solutions using a series of initial fields of radar reflectivity, resulting in a distribution of shortperiod forecasts. This paper examines the nature and interpretation of the distribution of QPNs. Areal precipitation forecasts may be used as input to a simple lumped hydrological models to investigate the impact of the nowcast distribution on streamflow forecasts. This investigation will provide information on how forecast uncertainty can be propagated through such models, and how one may best handle distributions of QPNs of this nature in a hydrological context.

The use of radar in hydrological modeling in the Czech Republic ? case studies of flash floods

Flash flood induced by severe convection is the hydrometeorological phenomenon that is very difficult to forecast. However, the implementation of radar measurements , especially radar-based Quantitative Precipitation Estimate (QPE) and/or radar-based quantitative Precipitation Nowcast (QPN) can improve this situation. If the radar is able to capture the development of severe convection and can ...

How Does Monetary Policy Affect Household Income Distribution?

Over the last decades the research on monetary policy has largely concentrated on the impact of monetary authorities’ decisions on inflation and the fine-tuning of the macroeconomic, so that distributional effects of monetary policy which are non-trivial has been ignored. A view that has become increasingly popular since the financial crisis 2008 is that expansionary monetary policy can exacerb...

Nowcasting daily minimum air and grass temperature

Site-specific and accurate prediction of daily minimum air and grass temperatures, made available online several hours before their occurrence, would be of significant benefit to several economic sectors and for planning human activities. Site-specific and reasonably accurate nowcasts of daily minimum temperature several hours before its occurrence, using measured sub-hourly temperatures hours ...

The Diurnal Cycle of Precipitation in Radar Observations, Model Forecasts and Maple Nowcasts

We have seen in a recent paper (Surcel et al., 2009) that the diurnal cycle of precipitation over the continental US exhibits some seasonal variability. This is a consequence of the fact that during the summer, precipitation is strongly forced by the diurnal cycle of solar heating and it usually initiates as small scales, while during spring, precipitation occurs at larger scales, being synopti...

APPROXIMATION SOLUTION OF TWO-DIMENSIONAL LINEAR STOCHASTIC FREDHOLM INTEGRAL EQUATION BY APPLYING THE HAAR WAVELET

In this paper, we introduce an efficient method based on Haar wavelet to approximate a solutionfor the two-dimensional linear stochastic Fredholm integral equation. We also give an example to demonstrate the accuracy of the method.
